Why use pulse lavage?
Pulsed lavage (or pulsatile jet lavage) is commonly used in procedures like orthopaedic joint replacement (hip, knee and shoulder), wound care and trauma. Using a combination of pulsed irrigation and suction, the kit is perfect for wound debridement procedures effectively removing contamination and debris from the operating site. This ensures better visibility, helps prepare bone for cement and removes debris or microbes that can cause infection. Studies suggest that pulsed lavage improves tissue regrowth by removing dead tissue without disrupting normal tissue (Bastawros, D, Advances in Skin & Wound care Nov.03, vol.16, is.6- p282).
Why choose single use pulsed lavage?
Guaranteed to be clean and sterile every time, single use surgical instruments eliminate the possibility of cross-contamination between patients. This is particularly applicable to its role to reduce surgical site infections (SSI). For example, recent studies have found the use of pulsed lavage can reduce SSI rates from 29.8% to 13.5% (Bath, M.F. et al (2021) Use of Pulsed Lavage Reduces the Rate of Surgical Site Infection After Laparotomy, Journal of Surgical Research, vol.266 -p300). As a result of these attributes, the single use pulse lavage is a valuable tool in the fight against infection.
